1. No more than ~ : 겨우 ~ 뿐 only ~
= As little[few] as ~ 

2. No less than ~ : ~ 만큼 많은 [많이] ~에 못지않게

지난 시간에 봤던 No more ~ than ...이랑 No less ~ than... 과는 구분해서 봐야함

 

 

예문 1

 

To encourage student participation in group discussion, it is recommended to involve no more than 20 persons and to plan the material to be covered carefully.

여기서 persons는 people이라 쓰기는 애매하고 개인들의 수를 세는 느낌으로 사용한 것. 참고로 peoples는 여러 인종을 말할 때 사용.

 

 

예문 2

Many phenomena mystify the human mind, and when people do not have scientific explanations they will construct others that, no less than former, influence their conduct.

 

mystify (v) : 혼란스럽게 하다

conduct (v) : (특정 행동을) 행하다 (n) 행동

유의어로는 execute (v) 가 있지만 이건 실행/집행/처형하다 의미의 행동. 맥락에 따라 잘 구분해서 쓸 것.

former (n) : 전자 <-> 후자
